In 2010, I read forty-four books (maybe forty-five, if I finish the last one in the next four days…), more or less at random. This year, I’m following Lauren‘s and Christy‘s leads in choosing some of my books beforehand. Therefore, here are the twelve books (and two alternates) that I intend to read in 2011. All of them are books I have meant to read for more than a year:
Harry Turtledove — How Few Remain
Robert A. Heinlein — Stranger in a Strange Land
Douglas R. Hofstadter — Godel, Escher, Bach
Susanna Clarke — Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell
Walter M. Miller Jr. — A Canticle for Liebowitz
Cory Doctorow — Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town
Scott Westerfeld — Uglies
Judith Lindbergh — The Thrall’s Tale
Cormac McCarthy — The Road
Aldous Huxley — Brave New World
Frank Herbert — Dune
Rafael Yglesias — Dr. Neruda’s Cure for Evil
Alternates (in case you can’t read one of the others for some reason, or you end up hating it three chapters in):

Ursula K. Le Guin — Rocannon’s World
Elizabeth Kostova — The Historian
The Book Addicts group on Goodreads is having a giveaway related to this, too. Anyone who completes their twelve books by the end of 2011 is entered to win a gift card to an online bookstore of their choice. Full rules here. This is my profile if you’d like to be my friend.

YES. Your list is really pretty awesome, you’re welcome!!
I really like your list. I love The Historian and The Road bunches. I’m planning to read Godel Escher Bach this year too… and Jonathan Strange (since I’ve been using it improperly as a doorstop LOL)
Oh, let me know how Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell turns out. I’ve been trying to read that one for a year now and always end up putting it down.
Hopefully I can get through it. It’s a bit daunting.
I read Uglies – it was pretty interesting!
